This is the second part of the tips that you should consider when buying bedding for your kids’ bedroom. And you must ask your kids what general design they would love to have in their room. And base on the theme that they have chosen, you can buy bedding accordingly. Take into considerations the passion of your kids; trucks, animals and space adventures for boys while flowers and bugs may best suit your girls’ preferences. Considering the color of the bedding you are going to buy is the next tip. Your kids surely have their favorites so you must go for that color. But, you should always buy extras with colors that are matching for their age and passion in case they change their minds. If you are thinking of adding bed accessories, make sure that they coordinate well with the rest of the bedding. Lastly, have the bedding shipped directly to your kids. Have the shops delivered the purchase to your home with the package bearing your kids’ name. This should fire up their excitement about the new bedding. And that should be fun.

And before you buy anything; be sure to include your kids’ choices and personal preferences. Ask them what color, design and material they would love for their bedding to have. The Details Count
In decorating a home, we always look at the bigger picture. That of course is essential. You have to have a plan on what do you want your home to look like. You have to project how your home would look like if you use this or that color.
But then, do not overlook small details as they are important too. Even if you have used the perfect color for your home and the best couch money can buy, pristine doors, and other stuffs like that, your home would not be so appealing if not for those little things like easily accessible door handles and such things.
Rental Decorating Digest has their own ideas on how to beautify a home just by paying attention to small things. Here are some of those things that they deem important:
- Cabinet Hardware – One of the most instant and dramatic changes you can make to a room is by changing drawer handles and hardware. A renter or owner can replaced cheap bronze drawer handles in an old country home, and install oval shaped silver brushed knobs. This changes the whole dynamic theme of the room and allows you to personalize your space! Renters can just remove the knobs when they move and take their style to the next residence.
- Drapes & Curtains – Curtains and drapes can be removed and stored in airtight bags while you enjoy hand selected window treatments of your choice. If you have window blinds, there is a great product called Slide on Brackets that allows you to hang your curtain rods directly on the blind without putting holes in your walls.
- Showerheads – If you want to quickly upgrade your bathroom, consider changing the shower head. A European style shower head can instantly change a boring bathroom to spa experience. If you are living in a rented space, this investment can move with you.
- Light Fixtures (not recessed lighting)- If you are staring at a light bulb hanging from your ceiling, you may need to consider investing in a light fixture! Lamps and lighting can vary in price from thrift shop makeover lamps, to high end showroom quality fixtures. Your style can be found in this full spectrum of choices.
These are tips that can help you make your home, either rented or owned, more appealing. Working on the details of your home can be one of the many ideas for Valentines Day out there.
The Basic Three
In designing a room or a home in general, I am sure that you consider a lot of things. Foremost I think is the cost of decorating. Of course, you should take into account the money that you have to spend to adorn your home with the fixtures and furniture of your choice. Apart from that, there should be three things that you have to consider a lot.
Rental Decorating Digest covers these three important elements of room design in depth. Being an aficionado of home designing myself and an avid hunter of ideas for Valentines Day, I would like to share my point of view on these three elements.
The first element is functionality. It is of course very important. If you have all these cool things in your home yet you can’t sit on them, it’s utterly useless. Remember that you do not design a room just to look good but also to be of service.
The second is mood. A room should be able to inspire a mood. This will depend on your personality actually. If you are the type who wants sunny days, you should design your living room or your home with things that you associate with your favorite weather.
And if you want a room to express a mood, then, it should have harmony. Home furnishings should complement each other and in essence, work together to exude that mood you are aiming for.
Breathe Life Into Your Basement
Having a glamorous home means that it should be furnished with really cool and elegant. And a good home theater system is definitely a good addition to a home to make it look really glamorous.
But the problem with this is where to put your new home theater system like this one right here. Surely, you would not want it to look that clinical. And putting it in your living room might not be a really good idea.
One reason why a home theater system will not really fit in a living room is lighting. I am sure that you would want a really dramatic and theater-like atmosphere while you are watching your favorite movie. And living rooms are designed to have good natural lighting. Well, most of them anyway. So if you put your home theater system in your living room, you would have to close the curtains and stuff.
So, why not put it in your basement? The basement is a really good place to set up any home theater system. You will not be bothered by harsh lighting that can ruin your viewing pleasure. Plus, you can set up a really cool mood descending into the basement with well placed modern candle holders.
Turn Old Into New
Does your kitchen cabinet bland? Do you think it’s time to have them replaced but you don’t feel you’re up to spending that much for a new set? Why not try your artistic sense by jazzing it up.
If you are the person who loves challenges, you would surely like the idea of working on your old cabinet to turn it into something “new”. Basically, what you will need are water, paintbrushes, glaze, clean rag, primer sealer, sandpaper, paint, clear polyurethane, TSP or trisodium phosphate, glue or wood filler, detergent, or design blocks or stamps if you want.
First off, you need to remove the doors and the drawers and whatnot. In short, you have to disassemble your kitchen cabinet. Be careful doing this as you do not want to destroy anything. Then, clean the door/s with TSP or sandpaper if needed. If the doors are stained, you can use the detergent.
Once you have the doors and drawers cleaned, it is time to make repairs in any is needed with the assembly of the cabinet. Like if there are holes that needs plugging or the hinges needing replacement. With that out of the way, you can now start painting the doors and drawers. You don’t need to be good at drawing things as you can design your cabinet with abstract doodles if you want to.
Once the paint is dry and it has been coated with a protective coating, you are now ready to put it all back together. And there you are, a very easy way to turn old furniture into “new”.
